Our Story

My name is Joshua Velazquez (and yes, it gets misspelled a lot). I got my start in the pet industry working alongside my mom, who owned a pet supply store that grew to four locations at its peak. During those years, I was the buyer, talking directly with pet food and treat companies, attending major buying shows, and learning how sourcing and manufacturing really work.

That’s when I saw something that stuck with me. A lot of usable animal parts go unused, not because there is anything wrong with them, but because of how large-scale pet food manufacturing works.

Pet food companies have to meet strict guaranteed analysis requirements. If those numbers fluctuate too much, it can trigger recalls. To keep things consistent, many manufacturers prefer clean cuts of meat and avoid parts that can vary more from animal to animal, like heads, feet, and organs.

A perfect example is rabbit. Rabbit is a fantastic protein for many pets and is used in a wide range of foods, but the parts that do not fit the manufacturing model, like rabbit heads, rabbit feet, and organ meat, are often set aside.

That’s Where Frost Fang Comes In

We purchase those unused parts and turn them into high-value treats. It’s about honoring the whole animal and using more of it responsibly, without the constraints of mass production.

Why It Matters to Me

I was raised with the belief that if you take an animal for food, you should honor the animal by using as much of it as possible. Wasting usable parts never sat right with me.

Frost Fang is my way of doing something practical about the waste I saw, reducing what ends up discarded while giving pet parents access to treats that are simple, honest, and deeply satisfying for their animals.

Another Example: Poultry

Waste is not just a rabbit industry problem.

In large-scale poultry operations, many chicks that do not meet production standards are often removed at the hatch, creating unnecessary waste from what are otherwise perfectly good food sources. Even among those kept, operations may retain only the ones that appear the most uniform or ideal, discarding others despite them being usable.

We work to redirect that kind of unused material into something meaningful, high-value treats that help pet parents feed with intention.

Our Non-Negotiables

• Single-ingredient, always. You should be able to look at the label and know exactly what you are getting.

• Sourcing quality first. Most of our products are USA-sourced. A small number are sourced outside the U.S. when that is the best or only option, such as smelt from the Great Lakes via Canada, New Zealand green-lipped mussels, and sardines from Malaysia.

• Processed in-house by our team. We do not outsource processing, so we can stand behind the quality of what goes out the door.

Signature Favorites

Two products I am especially proud of:

• Rabbit Heads A bold, whole-animal treat that represents exactly what we are trying to fix, usable parts being left out of the system. Packed with natural scent and texture, they are deeply engaging and instinctively satisfying for pets.

• Menhaden A nutrient-rich fish that is often overlooked or used as bait, but that pets absolutely love. Naturally aromatic and highly motivating, especially for pets that go wild for seafood.

Frost Fang is not a mega corporation. We are intentionally small, hands-on, and built around doing things the right way, not the fastest way.

I got my start in the pet industry working alongside my mom, learning firsthand what it means to build something with care, responsibility, and integrity. Now, I am a single dad, and as my son grows up, I want to pass along those same lessons to him.
